Thoughts on Adoration
(For Your Reflection)
God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. (Jn. 4:24)
God is spirit and we must adore Him in spirit and in truth, that is, with humble, authentic adoration of spirit in depth and center of our souls.
—Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection
Christian spirituality of the future will be always a spirituality of adoration of the incomprehensible God in spirit and truth.
— Karl Rahner, SJ
In this life, we never comprehend fully what the redemption in the Blood of Jesus means for us and the universe. Its full accomplishment remains still hidden; the redemption in the Blood is a mystery. The only worthy answer on our part is adoration.
—Anton Loipfinger, CPPS(Superior General 1983-1995)
The foundation of our spirituality is adoration — a baseline of love. We are called to attentive listening to God and to others — the special work of Adorers. Adoration is the best preparation for reconciliation. It is not what we do, but who we are before God, that is important.
— Robert Schreiter, CPPS
Prayer has been too often presented as a technique, a thing to do before God does something in return. I see prayer as a state of continued growing into deeper union with the indwelling Trinity. . . I strongly believe God has created us to be mystics. What else will heaven be?
