Sophia leads a song of praise!

Some 200-300 Liberian refugees have resettled in St. Louis in the past four years.  Since the Adorers ministered in Liberia from 1971 to 1992 and lost five sisters to the civil war there, we know something of the refugees’ heartache over loss of relatives and dashed hopes.  Many of the refugee women are widows and are waiting for their children to join them.  It is a long process—at least four years—and they did not realize it would take so long when they agreed to come without them.  They thought their children would be following soon.  So, they work hard, live meagerly, send money to their children, and wait.  We Adorers wanted to do something to ease their burdens, so Sandy Duvic and Kate Reid, ASC collaborated with Paulette Weindel, CPPS at St. Pius V Immigrant Outreach and Jean Abbott, CSJ  of the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma.  On September 15 the Ruma Center hosted a day of relaxation especially for the mothers and grandmothers who carry a heavy load in the U.S. just as they did in Liberia.
