House of Light and Hope

by Sr. Anita (Ann) Fearday, ASC

In La Paz, Bolivia, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ recently opened a rehabilitation and therapy center for persons with neurological problems. This is the first center of its kind in the entire country. It also provides temporary shelter for those who come from afar, who lack economic resources and are in need of these services. In addition, “Casa Luz y Esperanza” is light and hope for a small number of persons with disabilities who make their home there.

The ASC Sisters have a history of accompanying persons with disabilities. Sr. Janet Marie Wilhelm is the Bolivian national coordinator of the Christian Fraternity of Persons with Disabilities. Sr. Anita Fearday accompanies the local chapter of the Fraternity, and six persons with disabilities work in the Center Salud Integral, “Sangre de Cristo”. Physical therapy, speech therapy, special education, psychological orientation and a new methodology of treating neurological problems are the focus of attention in the House of Light and Hope.
