RELEASE: August 06

UN NGO Community Meeting

On August 18 - 20, 2006 the following members of Precious Blood Congregations: Toni Temporiti, Stephanie Mertens, Mary Wendeln, Nancy Raley, JoAnn Mark, Rosemary Russell, Carol Boschert, Tim Knepper (Ohio by phone) and Susan Welsby (Rome by phone) met in O’Fallon, Missouri to work on formation of a Precious Blood International Non-governmental Organization (NGO).

Genuine excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment motivated the members at the meeting. The charism that unites us is moving us to search with one mind and heart to find ways to bring the reconciling presence of Jesus to the work of the United Nations for peace and justice. We believe that the Precious Blood Congregations are called in this day, age, and time to bring the gifts, the mercy, the love, the compassion of the Precious Blood of Jesus to the world through a Precious Blood Non-Governmental Organization. We have been mandated to pursue this dream by our Precious Blood leadership teams.

Precious Blood Congregations are a truly global network with personnel in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. The Congregations are preparing to take the necessary steps to formally apply for status as Precious Blood Congregations at the United Nations in New York. Structural matters such as the formation of a 501(c) (3), membership, board of directors, budget, location of the NGO office, job description of the NGO executive director will be addressed.

The following is a draft of the purpose of the Precious Blood International NGO:
Precious Blood International has as its purpose to raise awareness of global concerns among our members which will lead to actions that bring about systemic change through collaboration with the United Nations. Precious Blood International will be a voice at the United Nations with the poor of the countries where our members serve in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas in order to promote social justice in the world. Precious Blood International will place the knowledge, experience, charism, history, tradition and resources of our members at the service of the global community represented at the United Nations.
