Let the Mountains Rejoice: Adorers in the Andes
Tibet of the Andes
A land of geographic and economic contrasts, Bolivia is one of two land-locked countries in South America. Its mountainous terrain has earned it the nickname, “The Tibet of the Andes”. It retains much of its native culture, since 60% of the population is of Indian ancestry. Despite numerous military coups, the country has had over two decades of uninterrupted democracy.
The second poorest country in the Western hemisphere, Bolivia suffers from the highest infant mortality rate and the highest illiteracy rate in South America, the latter a result in part of schools that are overpopulated and underfunded. The average family earns $700 per person annually.

Since 1969, Adorers from Italy, Spain, and the United States have provided spiritual and temporal services for the people of God and have created a flourishing foundation of the international congregation of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ.
